Thursday, October 11 marked the official opening of 65 Landsdowne Street, the first Partners HealthCare research facility to house scientists from both Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The new five story, 123,000 square foot building is located at University Park near the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Members of the Partners research, clinical and administrative communities attended opening ceremonies featuring remarks from Partners President and CEO Samuel O. Thier, MD, Partners Board Chairman Jack Connors Jr. and Harvard Medical School Dean Joseph Martin, MD. Pointing to the central place medical research occupies in Partners’ mission, the speakers heaped praise on Partners Vice President for Academic Programs, Eugene Braunwald, MD, for his vision and leadership of the research enterprise and for his efforts to promote collaboration among scientists across Partners. After the program, guests were treated to tours of many of the labs in the building, including the Center for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) and the Harvard Partners Genome Center.
